MAC Lip Oil or e.l.f Tinted Lip Oil

Lip Oils are for keeping your lips moisturised and chap free!  In November 2017, MAC launched “MAC – Hint Of Colour Lip Oil” products that are sold exclusively in Selfridges. Winter was was fast approaching and I told Fizzstah that we needed purchases these for our makeup collection.

A few days later I visited Selfridges and I purchased Doll to Diva (hot bubblegum pink), Candy Drop (bright grape purple) and La La Love You (creamy magenta) there is also a fourth colour Pale Princess (light lemon yellow) but I did not purchase it because it did not look good against my skin tone.

MAC Selfridges describes the product as “infused with five different moisturising and soothing oils, this gel-like formula melts in easily, leaving a delicate tint.  The conditioning ingredients seal in hydration for hours creating a glossy finish.”

The product costs £15.50 for 11mls

Now I am not going to lie these oils are wonderful and my lips welcomed them wholeheartedly.  My lips survived the harsh December weather; especially when I was out cycling.

However – in early January I received a marketing email from e.l.f (Eye Lips Face) introducing their Tinted Lip Oil.  The company describes the product as effortlessly add a rich tint to your lips with this convenient lip oil. its pigmented formula is infused with vitamin E, jojoba, and apricot oils.  Get softer and hydrated lips with every application!”

The e.l.f. product retails for £7.50 for 11mls and is available in 10 shades.

As a fan of the MAC product, I wanted to know how the e.l.f. Tinted Lip Oil would measure up.

I visited the e.l.f. website and purchased four of the Tinted Lip Oils in the shades Pink Kiss (nude), Coral Kiss (baby pink), Blackberry Kiss (purple) and Fuchsia Kiss (bright pink)

Product Comparison

  • e.l.f offers 10 shades compared to the 4 offered by MAC.
  • Both products feel rich and nourishing on the lips.
  • e.l.f. oils have a richer concentration of pigment – so you get more colour
  • the MAC applicator is slightly larger and feels a little softer upon application.
  • same size products

Verdict – Hit or Miss Dupe

I would have to say e.l.f. Tinted Lip Oil is a real HIT!

You can purchase two e.l.f. Tinted Lip Oils for the price of one MAC Lip Oils – this represents exceptionally good value for money. When I reorder my lip oil I will be purchasing them from e.l.f!!
