There are a few things I keep on hand to make my life easier. In this post, I will go through them and explain why I consider these chronic life essentials.
Ok, I’m sure you’re wondering where I am going with this. Most of my medication I am required to take with food, the problem with this is I’m not always hungry when it comes the time to take my medication or I just don’t have the energy to make something to eat. This is where the milk comes in. I was leafing through the thin piece of paper that is inserted in all medication boxes and read you must take that particular drug (hydroxychloroquine) with food or MILK. This was my Eureka moment. As I am conscious about how much dairy I consume for both health and environmental reasons I turned to Alpro Soya Chocolate Milk (affiliate link) cartons, in my local supermarket they sell a 3 pack of 300ml cartons. These are absolute life savers!
2. Quick / Lazy Food
This relates to the first point but I need these options when I’m actually hungry but have limited or no energy to cook. I usually have ramen noodles, porridge/oatmeal or other types of cereal to hand. They may not be the healthiest options but they keep me going and I definitely consider these chronic life essentials.
3. Pain Relievers
By this, I don’t just mean pain killers. I rely on my wrist splints and TENs machine when I’m flaring. Heating pads, hot water bottles, ice packs and warming or cooling pain relief sprays are also good to keep on hand.
4. Extra Medication
My medication dosage tends to be quite changeable depending on my symptoms. This is why it’s important to have extra medication to hand in case I need to make any changes.
5. Pill Box
As soon as I started my medication regime my pill box has been an essential part of my daily life. Since I suffer from joint pain removing my pills from the there blister packets daily would get painful very quickly. It also means there is one less thing to worry about daily and it makes it easy to keep track of my medication.
I hope this gave you some insight into my chronic life essentials. Until next time Stars!
